The Guerilla Underground 2022 Season Announcement

Guerilla Opera is thrilled to announce the 2022 season of The Guerilla Underground, a virtual speakeasy experience and performance series that explores the “operatic”.

The Guerilla Underground offers monthly live streams, with video on demand options that can include encore broadcasts from live performances, new works interpreted through the cinematic mediums of film and animation, invigorating musical concerts, and works for both stage and screen. Each live stream event is directly followed by an After Party with artist Q&A, games and giveaways!

On January 14, 2022 at 7:30PM EDT Guerilla Opera offers an extended run of the world premiere animated film by Deniz Khateri based on the tale by the Brothers Grimm, followed by an exclusive album release party!

The Cellos’ Dialogue (Official Selection of The Guerilla Underground)
On February 11, 2022 at 7:30PM EDT the first “Official Selection of The Guerilla Underground” is the Un-آن Theatre Ensemble production about a woman from the Middle East who finds herself struggling with an unexpected pregnancy in America. Written and performed by Deniz Khateri, music and sound design by Bahar Royaee, and directed by Yekta Khaghani.

The Colony (Official Selection of The Guerilla Underground)
On March 11, 2022 at 7:30PM EDT, Guerilla Opera streams another first “Official Selection of The Guerilla Underground”, featuring a story about sisterhood and the evolution of communication in two of the most social creatures on earth: ants and humans. Music by Anna Lindemann, and libretto by Anna Lindemann and Emma-Komlos Hrobsky.

Guerilla Opera's Papillon and SALT
On April 8, 2022 at 7:30PM EDT, Guerilla Opera presents two of their recent genre-bending productions, “Salt” and “Papillon” both with stage direction by Deniz Khateri, and featuring the music of Kaija Saariaho and Bahar Royaee.

TRIO (Official Selections of The Guerilla Underground)
On May 13, 2022 at 7:30PM EDT Guerilla Opera streams the last of the “Official Selection”, three finalists selected by Artistic Director Aliana de la Guardia: Populus tremuloides: "Quaking Aspen" by Jason Eckardt and featuring soprano Stephanie Lamprea, Interim by Sarah Grace Graves, and she wears bells, by Jo Reyes-Boitel and featuring Teatro Palo Alto.
